What Google Drive does well

  • Ubiquitous, free to start, and familiar to everyone
  • Great for everyday collaboration and storage
  • Deep Google Workspace integration

Where it falls short

  • No per-viewer watermarking, NDA gate, or true access-controlled links
  • No page-level reading analytics: you cannot see what got read
  • Link sharing is easy to misconfigure and hard to revoke cleanly

The verdict

Google Drive is excellent for everyday storage, but it was never built to share confidential deal documents. Octopus adds the control and reading analytics a shared folder cannot.

If you are comparing

Consider Octopus alongside Google Drive

See exactly who opened each document and which pages they read

A real data room in minutes, without leaving files in a shared folder

Engagement scoring, buyer intent, Deal Pulse, forwarding detection, audit log, and exports are available on higher plans.
